The Najaf Chamber of Commerce held a ceremony on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of its establishment in February 1950 as the first chamber in an Iraqi province.
The ceremony was opened by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber, Engineer Haider Al-Athari, with a speech in which he reviewed aspects of the history of the Chamber and its role in the history of Najaf Al-Ashraf and the care of the commercial family in it.
The ceremony also included speeches by the President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Zuhairi, the Chairman of the Najaf Provincial Council, Dr. Hussein Al-Issawi, and the Governor of Najaf, Engineer Yousef Kanawi, in which they congratulated the Chamber and valued the historical role of the Chamber in the Iraqi economy over the past decades and years.
Shields were presented to the former presidents and members of the chamber’s councils to celebrate their efforts that contributed to building this economic edifice and influenced its journey over the decades, in addition to honoring a number of distinguished merchants in various sectors.
During the ceremony, a documentary film entitled “75 Years of Legacy” was screened, documenting the story of the Najaf Chamber of Commerce since its establishment, in a journey through achievements and important historical milestones.
The ceremony was attended by the representative of the Minister of Commerce, Mr. Abdul Razzaq Al Saadoun, and a large number of commercial and academic figures.
