The Najaf Chamber of Commerce received the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iraq, Mr. Ruben Soghoyan, accompanied by the Embassy’s Director of Consular Affairs.
The Chamber’s President, Engineer Haider Al-Athari, highlighted the importance of Najaf Governorate, which is distinguished as an agricultural, industrial, and touristic city visited by millions of visitors annually. This opens the door to cooperation in several areas, particularly given Armenia’s progress in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
The successful participation of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce in the fourth session of the Joint Governmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Iraq, which was held in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, on August 26, 2025, was also discussed.
The Chamber’s Chairman emphasized the importance of activating the two memoranda of understanding signed during the session with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the Union of Industrialists and Businessmen of Armenia, which will contribute to strengthening economic partnerships and opening up broader horizons for joint cooperation.
For his part, the Armenian Ambassador expressed his keenness to strengthen trade relations between the two countries and raise the level of cooperation through intensifying the exchange of trade delegations and participation in exhibitions. He announced the upcoming organization of a visit by a group of Armenian companies and traders to Iraq, announcing that the current volume of trade exchange between the two countries has reached $250 million annually, but there is a possibility to raise cooperation to higher levels.
